The Italian Union of the Blind and Visually Impaired of Puglia, for over one hundred years, in synergy with the National UICI, has protected the moral and material interests of the visually impaired, also committed, by all means, to promote cultural emancipation and of the same, to make them the main protagonists of their existence.
Despite the great achievements in the field of education for the blind and visually impaired in schools, the integration process has not yet been completed, but has a long way to go: the school still does not guarantee equal opportunities for learning and access for young blind and visually impaired people. People, culture and information. For example, adapted school texts arrive late, home help is lacking, as well as counseling for parents and teachers who too often do not have specific training and do not know Braille, which for the blind is an essential condition for full autonomy and effective inclusion in social, pedagogical , Work and cultural fabric.
The Italian Parliament intends to become the illustrated inventor of the writing and reading code, which has been used by all blind people in the world since the middle of the 19th century, on 21 February with Law no. 126 of 03.08.2007, National Day of the Braille, both for not failing to unleash the extraordinary and irreplaceable method, the result of the brilliant intuition and lively intelligence of the young Louis Braille, and also to raise awareness among the citizens. Age and condition, in the consciousness of a system, as diverse as it is inclusive. The date was chosen because it was simultaneously promoted by UNESCO on World Day for the Defense of Linguistic Identity.
The Italian Union of the Blind and Visually Impaired of Puglia, this year also in collaboration with that of Calabria, wants to increase your commitment to remembrance and awareness raising, on February 22, 2021 in an audio-video conference, at the Zoom Platform.
