An afternoon full of emotions, which was experienced on Tuesday, July 19 at 5pm, under the sign of the street dedicated to Judges Giovanni Falcone and Paolo Borsellino, to commemorate the death of the latter, who at the same time Place took place. Day and at the same time thirty years ago on Via Mariano d’Amelio in Palermo. An explosive device of infinite intensity explodes just as the judge at the intercom was at his mother’s to accompany her to the cardiologist. In a moment, he was torn apart by five members of his escort: Agostino Catalano, Emanuela Loi, Vincenzo Li Muli, Walter Eddie Cosina and Claudio Traina. At the event, in addition to the military forces, the municipal administration, in the person of Mayor Giovanni Calabrese and Councilor Domenica Bumbaca, for various citizens, also and above all the presence of schools. And could not miss a representation of the Liceo Scientifico Zaleuco di Locri, in the person of Vice Dean prof. Vincenzo Romeo, accompanied by prof. Rosella Fontana, Prof. Raffaela Cortese, and by the two former representatives of the Institute, Giorgio Arcidiacono and Angelo Praticò. The latter said he was proud to end his representative function with a bloom, participating in a moment of such high civic and moral standing. A school, the Liceo Zaleuco, which never ceases to impart values to its students, recalls a legality that is not only made by rules to learn, to remember, but to live from attitudes, to be embodied in social life, an environment increasingly aware that doing the right thing, without exaggerating, with respect and dialogue, removes the pseudo-security dictated by an oppressive, violent and conspiratorial attitude. Borsellino’s victim was not only that of a judge who represented the institutions, but also that of a man who loved to laugh, the joke, the lover of his country, passionate about his family. The real lesson lies in this: to be a true and authentic citizen, one must first be faithful, authentic people, who know how to be amazed by beauty, who know how to find them even where it does not seem to exist, even in the deepest darkness. We must believe in it and have courage! And so it takes a school education that shows the knowledge, it connects with the desires of the boys, to turn a stubborn, resilient and free man, capable of tackling the future and its complexity head on. Citizens who are fusing a proactive future will overcome all the uncertainty of the socio-political situation we are experiencing today. That is why Liceo Zaleuco is thankful for continually promoting healthy and ethically laudable ideals in an excellent way. After placing a crown to commemorate the moment of the massacre, Councilor Bumbaca read a few sentences from Judge Borsellino. In the end, everyone took their path again, but not alone, bringing part of Paolo Borsellino with them. “The fight against the Mafia must first be a cultural movement that everyone is accustomed to feeling the beauty of the fresh smell of freedom, which would be opposed to the stench of moral compromise, indifference, contiguity and therefore complicity” (Paolo Borsellino )
