Student volunteering: possible for specific and well-identified school activities: how to do it and how to adopt regulations

There is no educational institution which, in the context of its education, training and learning activities, does not encourage individual and joint voluntary activities with the dual aim of providing opportunities for social and civic engagement and self-realization, increasing and strengthening educational offerings. to favor the young and adult population. However, the activity has to be regulated somehow. Volunteer activities, in fact, as a manifestation of productive contributions to the civil community and to the development of school services, are given exclusively to volunteers both as a single and group voluntary commitment.

Possible sectors of intervention

Voluntary activities are in principle characterized by the many sectors of intervention, identified by several types specifically identified by the Council of the Institute on the opinion of the learning organization:

  • Lab activities within didactic projects prepared by teachers and approved by teachers also in extracurricular hours;
  • Laboratory activities related to crafts and skills related to the territory and its history;
  • didactic integration activities for special and motivated needs;
  • Assistance and / or animation for non-curricular activities (eg end-of-year celebrations, leisure and solidarity activities …) and curricula (theatrical, musical activities, etc.);
  • Training, updating and project development activities;
  • Liaison with institutional bodies (local health authority, municipality, social services).

The application for voluntary work and the criteria for awarding the service

The volunteer asks the teacher to volunteer, and specifies the intervention sector and the methods for carrying it out. The task of volunteer work – as prepared in the specific regulations prepared by the “Antonio Pagano” Comprehensive Institute of Nicotera (VV), led by teacher prof. Giuseppe Sangeniti – is performed by the teacher. The full expected acceptance of this regulation is a binding condition for the activity to be given.

Subjective requirements for holding positions

To be able to perform a task under these rules, interested parties must meet the following requirements:

  • Age over 18 years;
  • Enjoyment of civil and political rights and the absence of criminal convictions, which, in accordance with the current provisions on the matter, prevent the establishment of an employment relationship with the public administration;
  • psycho-physical and cultural ability to perform the task, relative to the operational characteristics of the specific task.

Legal and fiscal qualification of the task

Commitment in relation to the tasks referred to in these regulations should not be construed as a substitute for subordination, nor should it be considered indispensable to guarantee the normal activities of the school in which its operational context is concerned. in an only additional in aid state. Manner, therefore, represents an enrichment of these activities through the contribution of the knowledge and experience of the volunteers. The task of the task – is highlighted in the specific regulations prepared by the “Antonio Pagano” Comprehensive Institute of Nicotera (VV), which is linked as an example of excellent school and excellent management practice of the educational institution -, strictly excludes any establishment out of. of a subordinate relationship even when on term. The assignment may be canceled at any time due to withdrawal by one of the parties, without the need for any reason, or due to the supervision or manifest inadequacy of the interested party in relation to the requirements for access to the assignment itself.

Reimbursement of expenses

Volunteering is done spontaneously and for free and can in no way be paid for. The institute should therefore undertake to reimburse the volunteers exclusively for all expenses previously authorized and actually incurred, directly related to the activity carried out and objectively necessary. To reimburse these expenses, they must be adequately documented.

How to organize, monitor, verify and determine performance related to volunteering

The teacher identified for the purpose (responsible for voluntary activities that may coincide with the head of the school complex or with one of the teachers’ collaborators), arranges, monitors, verifies and determines the relative achievements, meaning, for the simple organizational effects , the existence of subordination of volunteers to the staff of the Institute. The manager monitors the performance of the activities, takes care of the verification that the volunteers respect the rights, the dignity and the options of the users and / or users of the activities themselves and that the latter on a technical carried out correctly and, if provided. , and compliance with specific sector regulations. At the beginning of the activity, the manager, in agreement with the volunteers, prepares the operational program for the realization of the activities themselves.

Volunteers involved in the activities must be covered by insurance against accidents related to the performance of the activities

The Institute is obliged to ensure that the volunteers involved in the activities are covered by insurance against accidents related to the performance of the activities themselves and for civil liability vis-à-vis third parties. The costs derived from the insurance coverage are borne by the institute.
