RinnovAzioni was born, the new section dedicated to training

What is the role of education, school and university, in the process of a major cultural, and in particular ecological and social, transformation that we are going through? What are the links between the environmental crisis and civic education? How can one compare and make available all the many virtual experiences of an educational matrix? To answer these questions we have created a space for the comparison and sharing of these topics. A space open to anyone who wants to contribute as an educational community to the process of collective growth and awareness we are already seeing.

With this article we start a new Rinnovabili.it project: the Section dedicated to training.

There will be a place for discussion and sharing. A place to develop the mental habit of constantly asking what we do and what we know. Well, we are convinced that this is essential for us to shape and further our education for a complex and insecure world that today requires us to face existential challenges.

Discussing and formulating a common vision of the situation, over stereotypes, is a training imperative that must be taken seriously if you really want to change the unsustainable paradigm of current human civilization in the planetary system.

Together: editors and readers, teachers and students, schools and universities, scholars and professionals, theorists and technicians … all equally Citizens In the City of the world and its various territories. Because the challenges of “sustainability” already connect us to the facts and the risks they bring. But we are still too divided in the ability to understand them and act together.

For this we must do Educational communitytruly oriented to cultivate subjectivities that are both autonomous and participatory at the same time: a community in which the diversity of views, experiences, technical knowledge and social role does not arise. Separation however Collaboration between individuals.

For these reasons, we named this section of the newspaper Renovations: Practices, ideas, connections for sustainable civic education. Specifically to help those who want to live authentically up to our current condition in school or in another learning context pedagogical experiences.

What do you find in this section? Four macro areas:

Ideas: Environment, energy, biodiversity, sustainability, nature, development, economy … words and concepts that risk the mediation of the environmental crisis and transform rhetorically repeated lexemes and basically empty of real pedagogical content. Here, they will not be taken for granted: learning about them, thinking about them, using them is a central goal of sustainable civic education. Ideas help to build reality: we will stimulate ourselves to reflect on their history, to distinguish their current technical meanings, to understand their ability, to show or hide aspects of the world in which we live. Every time we open up new horizons and ask ourselves new questions.

Experiences: we will give voice and visibility to civic experiences arising from formal educational contexts but attempting to respond with actions and objectives that are consistent with the needs and problems of unsustainability. Therefore, we collect the stories of the protagonists who promoted or experienced them first hand. We are interested in circulating examples of concrete actions: disseminating them, inspiring others, and nourishing reflection on current experiences. We believe that it is also useful for those who work in formal educational contexts: in fact, we often speak of “reality tasks” and “authentic contexts”, but the risk of planning them only is high (and paradoxical!) artificial.

Open Questions: Bringing perspectives and people together to build a shared awareness of the issues we have in common and the ability to develop critical self-awareness in the world. For us, this is the basis of a change in the cultural paradigm. Sustainable civic education does not mean propagating solutions, but adapting to issues of collective importance in order to evaluate existing solutions and look for alternatives. Therefore, we have attempted to formulate four fundamental questions that we continue to pose to an ever-increasing range of interlocutors worldwide.

We will publish their answers here to give a collective reflection rich in diversity of viewpoints (disciplinary, methodological, experimental, value) value that encourages each of us to focus on doubts and build personal positions (rather than accept or reject positions) . -packaged).

In the classroom: but in a school class or other pedagogical setting, what can be done concrete? In our opinion many, and with great creativity, if we start from the everyday, material and authentic reality of individual groups and learning environments and if we create places in which everyone feels confident, to express his vision of the world – even if minority or unusual. Ideas, experiences and open-ended questions give us ideas for building practices, RoutineExperiment on Actions effectively helping to change classroom work, the whole school curriculum, making paths and being sustainable Citizens In the City.

But there is a first experiment that we would like to invite every reader and reader, and in particular every class and teacher who will take part in RinnovAzioni: the open questions are also addressed to you! That’s why we’ll publish them at the end of this introductory article. Try to think about it, strike and, if you like, send us the result of your discussions training@rinnovabili.it.

  • What connections or contradictions do you see between what occupies you as an individual (work, research, passions, obsessions …) and what concerns you as people who are part of many communities, from local to global?
  • “If everyone around the world did this, it would be impossible for anyone to do that.” “By continuing to do this, we humans will soon not be able to do that.” What do these expressions evoke for you?
  • The problems of biological, economic, social and cultural sustainability, which weigh on the existence of mankind, are finally gaining visibility – but it takes too long and it is too difficult to make and implement consistent collective decisions: it is not that something is not sustainable. in the human political-institutional organization?
  • Based on your experience, what is essential to know and what is essential to learn to do for a human being today?

The new section of Rinnovabili.it dedicated to training has been created in collaboration with the project MultiScale EU – The Multiscale European Citizenship Paradigm: EU Educational Skills for Teachers promoted and coordinated by Research Center CITOYEN.NE.S on Education, Culture and European and Multiscalar Civic Action from eCampus University.
