In 2021, over 70% of graduates studied in the same province in which they received their diploma (44.3%) or in the neighboring province (25.8%). Today there are 1.79 million university students, of which over 500,000 are off-site. The beneficiaries of scholarships are about 244,000. Considering that there are about 40,000 places available in university students and colleges, it turns out that over 250,000 live off-site in rented apartments, without receiving grants, with expenses between 6,500 and 8,000 euros per year (food, accommodation, utilities, internet) . Characteristics of the colleges
The University Colleges of Merit are residential structures intended to host students from Italian universities and higher education institutions, both state and non-state, who show special skills, motivation and commitment during their studies, obtaining excellent results. The Conference of University Colleges of Merit is the association that brings together and represents 53 University Colleges of Merit recognized and accredited by the Ministry of University and Research. Students admitted through competition, based on merit and personal motivation, in addition to room and board, receive a range of services such as personalized tutorial assistance and the offer of cultural activities complementary to academic courses, based on a personalized contract between the Collegio and the College. individual student who intends to prepare the student for professional life.
In order to receive accreditation, University Colleges of Merit must have several distinctive characteristics such as:
• define a personalized training course, coaching and tutoring for all students;
• Guarantee scholarships and concessions for less well-off students;
• provide and guarantee international mobility initiatives;
• Establish cooperation agreements with professional associations, public bodies, medium-sized enterprises for training and career guidance activities. The University Colleges of Merit are located in seventeen Italian cities and eleven regions (Piedmont, Lombardy, Veneto, Friuli Venezia Giulia, Liguria, Emilia-Romagna, Umbria, Lazio, Campania, Puglia and Sicily). Furthermore, in 2022, the Sant’Efisio College of Cagliari was also recognized as a College of Merit by the Ministry of University and Research.
