What is the CLIL methodology
To understand what the CLIL methodology is, let’s start from its acronym, in fact CLIL is nothing more than Content and language Integrated learning. We are faced with a methodology that is predictableTeaching content entirely in a foreign language.
This methodology started in the 90 ‘, and thanks to some European funds it started to spread in the school community. CLIL therefore aims to promote the learning of a foreign language as well as the acquisition of new disciplinary content (but in a foreign language).
The CLIL must be taught in the subject (mathematics, computer science, physics, history, etc.) also because there is already a reference subject for the acquisition of language skills in our schools, such as English, French, German and Spanish.
What are the requirements to become a CLIL teacher?
To be logical CLIL teachers You must have specific requirements regarding language skills and methodological skills:
- to get you methodological-didactic skills it is necessary to pursue specific university specialization courses (of at least 60 CFU)
- for the Language skills in the foreign language you need at least a B2 knowledge.

CLIL in the disciplinary planning of the department
During the departmental planning, teachers also add the CLIL methodology together with the civic training skills to have a complete and effective planning.
The role of the school in the acquisition of certain competencies is becoming increasingly strategic, and among them also those that can be achieved by CLIL, which is planned and promoted both in the department but also in the various class councils, because it helps d ‘Improve communication and language skills.
How to achieve CLIL qualification
So what do you need to have the CLIL qualification? As mentioned before, it is necessary to have specific skills both in methodology and in foreign language, following specifically enable training courses.
After reaching the Language certification at least B2 level, one of the ways that comes recognized by the Ministry of Education as activated Advanced course on CLIL methodology. This course offers a complete training in learning methodology.
The course is aimed at all teachers of non-linguistic subjects who are interested in learning their subject in a foreign language. When the university course of 60 CFU is completed, a certificate will be issued certifying the skills for theCLIL Teaching.
CLIL Methodology and Teacher Ranking
Achieving a master’s in CLIL methodology also serves to earn higher points in the ranking of substitute teachers (GPS).

In the second bracket of the provincial ranking CLIL certification (B.12) is worth 6 points, while B.13 is worth 3 points.
- CLIL with B2 language certification ranges from 6 to 9 points – 6 points with B2 and CLIL B.12 – 9 points with B2 and CLIL B.13
- CLIL with the C1 language certification ranges from 7 to 10 points
- CLIL with the C2 language certification ranges from 9 to 12 points
